UNDRR needed strategic communications and digital production in the lead-up to and during WTAD, including the development of a campaign setting out the importance of increasing access to early systems under the hashtag #GetToHighGround.
The campaign needed to bring together community stakeholders across high-risk disaster areas, including coastal regions in the Pacific islands, and emphasise the importance of early warning systems in the detection of disasters.
It was critical that the seventh year of WTAD emphasised the crucial role that multi-hazard early warning systems as well as disaster risk information and assessments have in reducing the likelihood of catastrophes, preventing fatalities and reducing the material and financial effects of hazardous occurrences in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, an international agreement that was adopted in March 2015.
